Streamlining Voltage Conversion Through Stakeholder Coordination and Field Expertise

The Challenge

A major voltage conversion effort in rural South Texas required re-routing existing overhead distribution lines across a sprawling landscape. The geographic scale introduced numerous complexities, primarily the need to coordinate with a wide range of private landowners to secure access for conductor adjustments and new easement agreements.  Adding to the challenge was unpredictable terrain and rapidly growing vegetation, which made access and navigation for staking operations even more difficult. With emergency utility projects potentially shifting schedules, efficiency and flexibility were key to maintaining project momentum.

Root Cause Analysis

  • Multiple Stakeholders: Coordinating with dozens of landowners required advanced planning and strong communication.
  • Environmental Barriers: Thick vegetation and uneven ground slowed traditional fieldwork.
  • No Fixed Timelines: The absence of a hard deadline meant proactive progress tracking was essential.

The Solution

Stakeholder-Centered Approach

The Think Power Solutions team leveraged time management tools and relationship-building techniques to efficiently communicate with landowners and facilitate the approval process for reroutes and easements.

Field-Based Problem Solving

Despite variable terrain, the staking team maintained accuracy using local knowledge and consistent on-the-ground updates, ensuring design and fieldwork aligned throughout.

Utility Integration

Fieldwork was conducted in sync with the client’s broader capital improvements to minimize rework and align with construction readiness milestones.

Key Benefits

  • Time Savings: Accelerated routing and easement acquisition through field-first strategy.
  • Improved Access: Maintained project pacing despite environmental obstacles.
  • Client Satisfaction: Reinforced long-standing trust with SPEC through clear execution.
  • Construction-Ready Delivery: Completed all pre-build milestones, allowing the voltage conversion to progress.

The Results

All design and staking objectives were successfully completed. The construction phase is now underway, and the client continues to benefit from Think Power Solutions’ efficient, responsive, and high-quality fieldwork.
