Design Adaptation Resolves Utility Conflict in New Construction

The Challenge

During new construction activities, the project team identified a critical conflict: the planned anchor stake location overlapped directly with a sewer manhole. This issue posed a significant obstacle to proceeding with construction safely and compliantly. Without a redesign, the project risked delays, utility damage, and safety hazards to crews and the public.

Root Cause Analysis

  • Site Constraints: The presence of existing underground infrastructure (sewer manhole) was not compatible with the original anchor stake placement.
  • Design Impact: The conflict required reconsideration of the layout to avoid service disruption.

The Solution

Detailed Data Collection and Assessment

The project team conducted extensive field measurements and gathered detailed site data to inform design options. By documenting precise location data and surrounding clearances, the team prepared a basis for a revised plan that would eliminate the conflict.

Redesign and Collaboration

After analyzing the field data, Think Power Solutions developed an alternative anchor stake design that preserved safety and functionality. This proposed solution was reviewed with the client to confirm feasibility and alignment with project objectives.

Project Management and Coordination

Ongoing communication with PEC and field teams ensured all stakeholders were informed of the issue and the planned resolution. The redesign was integrated into the broader construction plan with minimal impact on the overall schedule and budget.

Key Benefits

  • Safety Assurance: The final design fully resolved the sewer conflict and prevented utility damage.
  • On-Budget Performance: The project remains on track to complete within budget parameters.
  • Responsive Problem Solving: Early detection and proactive redesign limited downstream impacts and supported client objectives.

The Results

The project is on course to deliver a safe, fully compliant new construction design. The team’s commitment to field validation, design agility, and proactive management preserved both the timeline and the integrity of critical underground infrastructure.
