Geotechnical Engineer – Electric Utilities
We are looking for a highly skilled and knowledgeable Geotechnical Engineer to be responsible for leading the evaluation, design, and implementation of slope stabilization solutions on complex and high-risk sites. This role manages projects from initial site investigation through construction, performing geotechnical analysis, developing stabilization systems, and ensuring safe and effective execution in the field. The position combines hands-on fieldwork with advanced engineering design, requiring expertise in slope stability, drainage control, and construction methods to protect infrastructure, property, and public safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Site Investigations & Field Assessments
- Conduct detailed hillside and slope evaluations
- Oversee drilling, sampling, and soil/rock testing
- Analyze soil composition, shear strength, and groundwater conditions
Slope Stability & Risk Analysis
- Perform slope stability modeling and landslide hazard evaluations
- Identify critical slip surfaces and failure mechanisms using industry standard software
Engineering Design & Solutions
- Design innovative stabilization systems such as:
- Retaining walls (gravity, cantilever, anchored)
- Soil nailing and tieback systems
- Ground anchors, geogrids, and reinforced earth
- Develop practical, constructible designs tailored to site constraints
Hydrology & Drainage Control
- Design surface and subsurface drainage systems to reduce pore water pressure and erosion
- Integrate long term water management into stabilization strategies
Construction Oversight
- Provide construction observation and support
- Verify grading, benching, keying, and re compaction operations
- Collaborate with contractors to ensure designs are executed safely and accurately
Technical Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare clear, professional engineering reports, plans, specifications, and feasibility studies
- Communicate findings and recommendations to clients, municipalities, and project teams
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency with slope stability modeling and analysis software
- Ability to prepare high quality technical reports and construction documents
- Familiarity with local building codes and jurisdictional requirements
- Solid understanding of the following stabilization methods: soil nailing and anchored systems, retaining walls and buttresses, grading, benching, engineered earthwork, drainage and erosion-control systems, vegetative and bio-engineering solutions
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills, making them an invaluable asset to our team and ensuring the smooth, compliant execution of key construction projects.
